Man charged with attempted murder in Elgin shooting

A northwest suburban man has been charged with shooting another man in Elgin last month.

Victor Rivera, 23, faces counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery for the attack that happened about 3:50 a.m. on May 27, according to a statement from Elgin police.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired at a home in the 0-100 block of DuBois Avenue and found a 33-year-old man shot repeatedly, police said. He was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Hospital with injuries that weren’t thought to be life-threatening.

Rivera, an Elgin resident, was arrested about 5:15 p.m. Saturday, police said. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver in connection with a separate drug investigation.

In court Sunday, his bond for the shooting was set at $1 million and at $500,000 for the drug charges, police said.

The shooting investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (847) 289-2612.
