Jay Cutler and Dowell Loggains’ first in-game crisis was fixed quickly.
The Bears quarterback said Wednesday that he and his offensive coordinator discussed the Bears’ 22-0 loss to the Broncos at length two weeks ago, straddling the line between frustration and the fact was merely the preseason opener.
“I think the major point for us was, ‘Let’s not panic,’” Cutler said after practice at Halas Hall. “Let’s not hit the fire alarm and put guys in a panic.”
Their patience was rewarded when, Thursday against the Patriots, Cutler completed 8-of-12 pass attempts for 83 yards. He left the game with an 11-0 lead, and credited his teammates from cleaning up mistakes from the Week 1 film.
“Hopefully we can do that this week, too,” he said.
Bullard back
The Bears expect third-round draft pick Jonathan Bullard to practice Thursday after the defensive end missed three-straight practices with what the team called a personal issue.
Fox expects Bullard to play Saturday, too, after returning to town on Wednesday night.
“Without going into too much detail, I think sometimes things outside of football kind of hold precedent over football,” Fox said.
No Floyd
One day after returning from injury, Leonard Floyd did not practice with a leg injury.
Fox disputed the notion that the No. 9 overall pick had been in and out this preseason — “He’s been way more in than out,” he said — and said the team has been “very, very pleased with his progress.”
This and that
• Running back Jeremy Langford returned to practice. His left leg had been put in a walking boot after being landed on Thursday in New England. Inside linebacker Danny Trevathan, who first missed practice eight days ago with a hamstring injury, was limited.
• Cornerbacks Bryce Callahan (hamstring) and safety Deon Bush (head/neck) did not practice, while Eddie Royal and Zach Miller (concussions) participated in a limited fashion.
• Saying the Bears had “about six illnesses,” John Fox listed right tackle Bobby Massie, cornerback Deiondre Hall, fullback Darrell Young as those who missed practice because they were sick.
