A man arrested Monday morning has been charged with five separate vehicle burglaries in northwest suburban Elgin.

Jesus Villagomez, 19, faces five counts of burglary to a motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, according to a statement from Elgin police. He has also been charged with theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

About 6:35 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a call of a suspicious person on a bicycle checking vehicles’ door handles in the 2000 block of Muirfield Circle, police said.

The officers found two suspected stolen bicycles outside of a home in the 1900 block of Muirfield Circle and subsequently made contact with Villagomez, who was inside, police said.

The bikes were identified as stolen and several items suspected to have been stolen in carious vehicle burglaries from the area were also recovered from inside the home, police said.

Villagomez, who lives in the first block of North Green Street in Carpentersville, was then linked to five separate vehicle burlgaries that occurred in the area in the last week, police said. He was scheduled to appear in Kane County bond court Wednesday.
