Man killed, 2 others hurt in Lake Station head-on crash

A man was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon in northwest Indiana.

A car and a pickup crashed head-on about 2 p.m. in the 2700 block of Ripley Street in Lake Station, Indiana, according to a statement from Lake Station police. The car was heading north when it crossed over into the southbound lanes and hit the pickup.

The 30-year-old man driving the car, Jhrome Elliot Tuggle, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Lake County coroner’s office. Tuggle, of the 7100 block of Ash Avenue in Gary, Indiana, suffered blunt-force trauma in the crash.

A 36-year-old woman who was a passenger in the car had to be extricated and was taken to a hospital by helicopter, police said. Her injuries were considered serious and life-threatening.

The 63-year-old man driving the pickup was taken to North Lake Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
