Police warn of increase in South Loop business burglaries

Chicago Police are warning residents of an increase in business burglaries this month in the South Loop.

Burglars entered restaurants, retail stores and business offices by breaking glass doors or windows, or opening unlocked windows, and took electronics, cash and alcohol, according to a community alert from police.

The incidents happened:

  • Between 7 p.m. Sept. 11 and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 13 in the 2300 block of South Michigan;
  • Between 3:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Sept. 12 in the 2000 block of South Calumet;
  • At 3:44 a.m. Sept. 13 in the 1700 block of South Michigan;
  • Between 1:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Sept. 14 in the 2300 block of South Michigan;
  • And between 1:55 a.m. and 3:10 a.m. Sept. 14 in the 1700 block of South Wabash.

One suspect was described as a black male wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt, gray sweatpants and white gym shoes, police said.

The second suspect was described as a 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-11, 160-180 pound white male with shaggy brown hair and a light complexion, police said. He wore a black skull cap, gray T-shirt with “Windy City” in red print, black shorts, black gloves, gray gym shoes and a black backpack.
