Man shot during attempted carjacking in Austin

A man was shot during an attempted carjacking Saturday night in the West Side Austin neighborhood.

The 22-year-old was in a vehicle about 8 p.m. in the 600 block of South Lotus when two males walked up, pulled out a handgun and attempted to take the man’w vehicle, according to Chicago Police.

During the incident, the man was shot in the left thigh, police said. The suspects ran away without getting the man’s vehicle.

The man took himself to Loretto Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. He was later transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital.
