A 70-year-old man is in serious condition after accidentally shooting himself in the chest Sunday morning on the South Side, according to Chicago Police.

It happened about 9:15 a.m. in the 8000 block of South Yates, and he was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.

Area South detectives are investigating, but the shooting was thought to be self-inflicted, police said.
