Police: Suspect fatally shot during Carpentersville store robbery

A man was fatally shot during while trying to rob a store Wednesday night in northwest suburban Carpentersville, police said.

About 7:30 p.m., he and an unspecified number of other suspects robbed the computer store in the 1600 block of Ravine Lane, according to a statement from Carpentersville police.

As they fled, shots were fired, striking one of the suspects, police said.

Kenyon R. Slater, a 37-year-old from Chicago, was shot multiple times and taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he later died, according to the Kane County coroner’s office.

The other suspects got away, police said. No one else was hurt.
