1 killed, 2 wounded in shooting at Subway shop in Chatham

A man was killed and two other people were wounded in a shooting Tuesday night inside a Subway restaurant in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.

It happened about 8:30 p.m. in the first block of West 79th Street, when a gunman walked in, opened fire and then ran away, according to Chicago Police.

Sylvester Gardner, 28, was shot multiple times was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the 7900 block of South Wabash.

Another man, 21, was shot in the arm and leg, and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital, along with a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the head and back, police said. Her condition was stabilized.
