A man was killed and another was critically injured when they crashed a stolen vehicle while being chased by officers Wednesday morning on the South Side, according to Chicago Police.

At 9:48 a.m., two men wearing masks carjacked a male at gunpoint as he was getting out of his vehicle in the 1000 block of West 61st Street, according to Chicago Police.

They drove off in the stolen vehicle with police chasing them.

The stolen vehicle crashed in the 4900 block of South Wentworth less than 10 minutes later, police said.

The 19-year-old man driving of the stolen vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Thursday did not immediately rule on the cause and manner of his death pending further investigation. His identity has not been released.

The other man, age 21, was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said. Charges against him were pending.
