A 28-year-old man died after he was run over by his own vehicle Sunday morning on the Tri-State Tollway in southwest suburban Worth.

David E. Mahay was driving north on I-294 near mile marker 15.5 in Worth at 6:42 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and struck the guardrail and concrete median barrier, according to Illinois State Police.

Mahay, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and thrown onto the road, where he was run over by his own vehicle, police said. No one else was in the vehicle.

Mahay was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died at 8:06 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood on Chicago’s Far South Side.

An autopsy Monday found he died of multiple blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident, according to the medical examiner’s office.
