Investigators have determined that a man who was hospitalized in critical condition with a gunshot wound Wednesday night shot himself in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The 23-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the head about 7:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of South Parnell, according to Chicago Police. He was taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

Further investigation revealed that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and the incident was being investigated as an attempted suicide, police said.

The men, 18 and 20, were in the 1800 block of West Monroe Street about 9:20 p.m. when two people got out of a light-colored sedan and fired shots. They were hospitalized in fair condition.
