The start of the White Sox game against the Yankees Thursday night at Guaranteed Rate Field was delayed by rain and did not start until 10 p.m.

The scheduled start time was 7:10 p.m. for what is the last in a four-game series against the Yankees, who are not scheduled to play the Sox again this season. The Sox announced at 6:30 that the game would be delayed because of expected rain, which began at 7:30.

The grounds crew took the tarp off the infield at 9:30. The total delay lasted two hours, 50 minutes.

Right-hander James Shields started for the Sox against Yankees right-hander Luis Cessa. Sox right fielder Avisail Garcia was out of the lineup with inflammation in his left knee.
