Man, 45, shot to death in Back of the Yards home

A 45-year-old man was shot dead Friday night at a home in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

At 10:48 p.m., Daniel Smith was standing in the living room of the home in the 5200 block of South May when someone fired shots from the sidewalk, striking him in the head, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Smith, who lived in the same neighborhood, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

No one was in custody as Area Central detectives investigated the shooting.
