On Feb. 23, Frank Avila appeared before the Chicago Sun-Times Editorial Board. We asked him why he’s running as a write-in candidate for commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District in the March 2018 primary:

My name is Frank Avila, I don’t know if I have a title but I’m a father, I’m a lawyer, I taught college and I’m a veteran. I think first of all we need enough money in the district so we need to put billboards on district property to get in revenue. We should be selling our bio-solids and we need to change our leasing of land policy. The three main goals are the better treatment of wastewater to water quality, including ways to treat the pharmaceutical drugs in the wastewater which are changing our ecosystem. And number three, better flood management and flood control. Stopping flooding, working with municipalities, getting green space to stop flooding and better use of water management.
