Police are investigating the death of a woman who fell from a balcony Wednesday night in the South Loop.

Penny Perkins, 46, fell from a fourth floor balcony onto the sidewalk at 10:19 p.m. in the 1900 block of South Wabash, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She lived on the same block.

She was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

The medical examiner’s office did not immediately rule on her death pending further investigation after an autopsy Thursday.

Area Central detectives were investigating.
