A Waukegan police officer was injured after a woman lost control of her truck and struck the officer’s squad car Friday in the north suburb.

The crash happened about noon as the officer was stopped in traffic inside his marked squad car at Grand and Lewis Avenue, Waukegan police said in a statement.

Martha Morales, 74, lost control of her Chevrolet Colorado truck and struck the driver’s side of the squad car, police said.

The officer was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said. The woman was uninjured.

Morales was cited with improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving with unsafe tires.

Morales was expected to appear in traffic court Feb. 22.
