So much of the rivalry between Jay Cutler and Philip Rivers is based on each player’s reactions. The rivalry was born when Rivers mocked Cutler from the sideline early in each player’s career. Since then, barely a week goes by without someone in Chicago bringing up Cutler’s body language.

Monday night, a casual fan would only need to see the reactions of each player to know how the game between the Chargers and Bears was going.

Cutler’s pick-six

In the second quarter of Monday night’s game, Cutler and the Bears were on the move following a Chargers fumble. Looking to cut into San Diego’s 7-0 lead, Cutler looked for Alshon Jeffery but instead found cornerback Jason Verrett who returned the interception for a touchdown.

Unsurprisingly, Rivers was really excited.

Bears come back

The Chargers held a lead almost the entire game. However, in the fourth quarter with the Bears down five, Cutler found tight end Zach Miller wide open over the middle. Miller made an outstanding catch and slid into the end zone. In response, Cutler pulled out his patented fist pump.

Rivers struggle face

Following the Bears late touchdown, Rivers and the Chargers had one last chance to tie or take the lead. However, a defensive stand turned the ball over on downs. Three Cutler kneel-downs later, the game was over. Rivers needed a moment to himself after the game.

That face pretty much says it all, not only for Monday night’s game, but for the Chargers’ season as a whole. With their 22-19 win, Cutler and the Bears improved to 3-5.
