First-year Bears lineman Pernell McPhee is already making his mark in Chicago. According to Pro Football Focus, he’s the best pass rusher in the NFL.
Using a formula which takes into account sacks, quarterback hits and hurries divided by number of plays, McPhee graded out as the NFL’s best through 10 weeks this season.
Via Pro Football Focus:
The Bears, after a slow start, are finding their feet under John Fox; one of the big reasons on defense is the excellent play of Pernell McPhee. A sub-package superstar in Baltimore, he’s not just coped with the expanded role, but thrived with incredible production. McPhee tops the charts by a good distance.
McPhee has 45 pressures and five sacks this season, and ranks ahead of Denver’s Von Miller, Kansas City’s Justin Houston, Seattle’s Michael Bennett and Seattle’s Cliff Avril on the list.
A knee injury kept McPhee out of last weekend’s win over the Rams, and his status for Sunday is in question after missing another day of practice on Wednesday.
