Bears sign quarterback to their practice squad

With Jimmy Clausen gone and David Fales promoted to the active roster, the Bears, as expected, added a quarterback to their practice squad on Tuesday. Quarterback Justin Worley and linebacker Danny Mason are the newest members of the practice squad.

Worley is undrafted rookie from Tennessee. He started 17 of 24 games played for the Volunteers, completing 329 of 558 passes for 3,556 yards, 23 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. Worley (6-4, 220 pounds) started 14 games over his junior and senior seasons. In those games, Worley was 266-of-338 passing for 2,818 yards, 22 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

Fales, meanwhile, is now Jay Cutler’s backup. A team had tried to sign Fales off the practice squad, but the Bears remain high on his potential and weren’t willing to part with him. Fales, a sixth-round pick of the Bears’ 2014 draft, played well in the preseason finale against the Browns. His responsibilities will now increase.

“It was a decision that we made organizationally to give him a look,” coach John Fox said.

Mason went undrafted out of Texas A&M-Commerce. Mason started 30 games over his collegiate career, making 272 tackles.
