Dan Hampton is still waiting for Jay Cutler to become an elite quarterback

Every week of the 2015 Chicago Bears season, Chicago Sun-Times Sports will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1985 Bears by speaking with players from the team including Jimbo Covert, Dan Hampton, Dennis McKinnon and Otis Wilson.

Former Chicago Bears defensive lineman Dan Hampton seems to still have a little faith in often-criticized Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

“As far as this year’s guys of who I am really looking forward to watching, the same one of the last six years,” Hampton said. “When is Jay Cutler going to become a top-five quarterback?”

Hampton went on to express his disappointment with the injuries to wide receivers Kevin White and Alshon Jeffery. With a healthy set of weapons, Hampton seems to think there still might be a chance that Cutler could be a premier NFL quarterback.
