Cardinals safety fined for hit on Bears QB Jay Cutler

Before Bears quarterback Jay Cutler suffered a hamstring injury and left the game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, he endured an illegal, helmet-to-helmet hit.

That’s what the NFL said when it fined Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson $17,363 for delivering a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cutler.

The hit occurred in the first quarter as Cutler moved to his right and completed a short pass to running back Matt Forte, which he turned into a 27-yard gain.

Johnson wasn’t penalized on the play, which the Bears turned into the league for review.

“We’re not allowed to comment on that,” Fox said Friday after practice at Halas Hall. “It really doesn’t make much difference either way. It didn’t get called.”
