Person of interest questioned after fatal Blue Island shooting

A person of interest is being questioned after a fatal shooting Wednesday in south suburban Blue Island.

About 6:56 a.m., authorities responded to the area of Vincennes Road and Collins Street for reports of shots fired and found a male in an alley with an apparent gunshot wound, Blue Island police said.

He was pronounced dead at 7:20 a.m., the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

A person of interest is in custody and officers recovered a weapon on the scene, police said.

Blue Island and Illinois State Police are conducting a death investigation.
