Man killed in Englewood shooting

Derek Middleton, 31, was walking about 2:10 a.m. when someone approached him in the 1300 block of West 73rd Street holding a handgun with a green laser, officials said.

A man was shot to death Jan. 22, 2021, in West Garfield Park.

A man was fatally shot Oct. 1, 2020, in Englewood.

A man was shot to death Thursday in Englewood on the South Side.

The 31-year-old was walking about 2:10 a.m. when someone approached him in the 1300 block of West 73rd Street holding a handgun with a green laser, Chicago police said.

The person opened fire, striking the man in the chest, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died shortly after.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Derek Middleton. He lived in Englewood.

Area One detectives are investigating.
