Woman fatally shot in northwest Indiana

A 29-year-old woman was fatally shot Saturday in northwest Indiana.

Authorities were called about 1:20 p.m. to the 600 block of West 63rd Avenue in Merrillville, according to the Lake County coroner’s office.

The woman, who suffered a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead less than an hour later, the coroner’s office said. Her death was ruled a homicide.

Merrillville police didn’t immediately respond to a request for details.
