Authorities have identified a 49-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run last month on the Bishop Ford Freeway on the South Side.

About 11:20 a.m., he was walking in the middle lane of northbound Interstate 94 on May 24 when he was struck by a vehicle near 111th Street, Illinois State Police said. The vehicle fled the scene.

Derrick Deshawn Porter was killed in the crash, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He lived in the Lawndale neighborhood. Autopsy results remain pending.

Northbound lanes were closed for an investigation until about 2:40 p.m., state police said.

Police said it was not clear why the man was walking on the freeway.

An investigation is ongoing, police said.
