1 killed, 1 wounded in West Garfield Park shooting

A 28-year-old man was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

A 27-year-old man was killed and a woman was wounded in a shooting Thursday in West Garfield Park.

They were on the sidewalk about 5:21 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Jackson Boulevard when someone fired shots from a vehicle, Chicago police said.

Vester Ward was struck in the arm, back and leg, police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Autopsy results released Friday ruled his death a homicide, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. Ward lived in the Austin neighborhood.

A 23-year-old woman who was shot in the arm took herself to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, police said.

No arrests have been reported. Area Four detectives are investigating.
