A man was killed in a shooting over the weekend near Lathrop Homes housing development on the North Side.

The 27-year-old was driving about 1:06 a.m. in the 2800 block of North Leavitt Street when a male approached the car and opened fire, Chicago police said.

The man was struck in the head and taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:20 p.m. later that day, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He was identified as Jovante King of Mayfair, the medical examiner’s office said.

Area Three detectives are investigating.
