Man killed in University Village shooting

Officers responding to reports of gunfire found the 21-year-old on the ground with two gunshot wounds to the side of his head, police said.

A man was found shot to death Sunday in University Village on the Near West Side.

Officers responding to reports of gunfire at 3:26 a.m. found the 21-year-old on the ground with two gunshot wounds to the side of his head in the 1300 block of West Hastings Street, according to Chicago police.

He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as Jalen Tyler. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Witnesses told investigators a male suspect had approached and opened fire into a crowd, police said.

No one is in custody as Area Three detectives investigate.
