Authorities release names of couple killed in Hammond murder-suicide

A Hammond couple are dead after the husband allegedly shot his wife and then shot himself at a cemetery in the northwest Indiana town.

They were identified as Alicia Guerrero, 49, and Rogelio Guerrero, 47, by the Lake County coroner’s office.

The man was suspected of shooting his wife about 7 a.m. at their home in the 4700 block of Ash Avenue, Hammond police said in a statement.

Officers arriving to the home found the woman with a gunshot wound to her shoulder, police said. She was taken to a hospital in Chicago, where she died.

About an hour later, officers received a call that her husband, a 47-year-old man, shot himself in the head at a cemetery in the 6900 block of Southeastern Avenue, police said.

He was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said. The coroner’s office confirmed that he died.
