Man fatally shot after gunman forces his way into South Shore home

A man was shot and killed after a gunman forced his way into a South Shore home on the Far South Side early Monday.

Michael Mekenzie, 55, was attacked about 1:50 a.m. after responding to loud knocking at his door in the 7700 block of South Shore Drive, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Mekenzie was shot multiple times and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, police and the medical examiner’s office said.

No one was in custody.
