Appearing on Howard Stern’s Sirius/XM program Tuesday, Chicago-bred comic Hannibal Buress discussed controversial comments he recently made about Bill Cosby at a Philadelphia comedy club.

“‘I was on TV in the ’80s. I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom,’ ” Buress-as-Cosby (minus the impression) ">told his audience. “Yeah, but you raped women.”

“It’s a weird thing,” Buress told Stern when asked about the incident. “Somebody ">filmed my show in Phili. I’ve been doing that bit off and on for six months, talking about the Cosby situation, but it’s just information that’s out there.”

Stern asked him if it’s weird when he does a bit on the stage that is then taken out of context and blown up in the media.

“This is the first time it’s happened and it’s very weird,” Buress said. “I got a lot of people writing me and saying things. It was unexpected. I didn’t want to do that, ‘cause if I was going to do it I would have done it on my own. That wasn’t my intention, to make it part of a big discussion. It was just something that I was doing at that venue right then. So then for someone to put it to the media — it’s crazy.”

Stern sympathized with Buress, telling him that’s he’s sometimes taken aback to by stuff he has said on the radio when it appears in print.

“You take the energy away and you just put it in print and you let people that’s not even fans, that don’t know your intent—it’s an interesting thing but it’s just part of the game, man,” Buress replied.

“It’s just a lot of stuff. I just read some stuff and researched and anybody can get that information.”

Stern wondered if he’s “sorry that it’s out there.”

“It’s a different thing, man,” Buress said. “I said it and I stand on it, but it is an interesting situation.”
