Two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Peyton Manning is heading to another bowl game.
This time is the reboot of the classic television quiz show, “College Bowl.”
NBC announced the reboot, which will co-star Manning’s brother Cooper Manning, as sideline reporter.
The 10-episode series presents a friendly “battle of the brains” competition between 12 teams of university and college students with scholarships as the ultimate prizes. The bracketed-style “tournament” takes place over four rounds where teams vie for the most points. The top two teams advance to the final round competing head-to-head for the title of “College Bowl” champion.
“College Bowl” originally aired as a radio show in 1953, moving to CBS television in 1959. In 1963 it moved to NBC where it aired until 1970.
“I’ve always loved intense college competition, so I’m thrilled to be part of the team bringing back ‘College Bowl.’ Having personally seen the profound impact scholarships can make on deserving students, I can’t wait for the moment when we get to award life-changing scholarships to the winning team,” Peyton Manning said via statement.
Since 1998, Manning has personally endowed 45 yearly scholarships to his alma mater, the University of Tennessee, helping to support deserving students, Tuesday’s announcement noted. His PeyBack Foundation has also established nine scholarships across eight different Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs).
Peyton Manning’s NFG career spanned 13 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and four with the Denver Broncos.
