DAILY GUIDANCE AND PRESS SCHEDULE FOR

THURSDAY, AUGUST 6, 2009

In the morning, the President will receive the Presidential Daily Briefing, the Economic Daily Briefing, and meet with senior advisors in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.

Later, the President will meet with members of the Senate Finance Committee in the Oval Office. This meeting is closed press.

In the afternoon, the President will meet separately with Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan in the Oval Office. These meetings are closed press.

In the evening, the President will deliver remarks at a fundraiser for State Senator Creigh Deeds at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. His remarks are pooled press. The President will then deliver remarks at a rally for State Senator Creigh Deeds at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner. Governor Tim Kaine will also attend. The event is open to pre-credentialed media.

Also tomorrow, Council of Economic Advisers Chair Christina Romer and Assistant to the President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism John Brennan will deliver speeches in Washington, DC. At 8:00AM EDT, Romer will deliver remarks at the Economic Club of Washington, DC at The Newseum. Dr. Romer will assess the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act on the economy and what we can expect going forward. At 11:00AM EDT at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Brennan will provide an overview of the President’s comprehensive approach to protecting the American people from terrorism: defeating the near-term threat from al Qaeda and other transnational terrorist groups and addressing the political, economic, and social factors that often fuel violent extremism.
