Gary police say a 7-year-old boy was shot in the head and wounded during a Christmas celebration at home with his family on Sunday.
Leonard Cobb III was in a living room at a Gary home early Sunday, just after midnight, when shots were fired into the house from outside.
“They were just having some gathering at the house celebrating the Christmas holiday,” when the bullets ripped through a window of the home, Gary police Cpl. Gabrielle King said.
Leonard was in critical condition later Sunday at the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital, hospital spokeswoman Lorna Wong said.
Police said Kenneth Farr, 36, who also was attending the Christmas party, was shot in the groin and wounded.
The house at 1006 Durbin St. had only one visible hole. It appeared that a bullet shattered through the lower right corner of a front picture window.
“I didn’t see anything or hear anything. It just woke me up,” a neighbor yelled through a locked door.
One man didn’t realize what it was until later.
“It sounded like a bunch of firecrackers going off,” he said.
Gary police are asking anyone who knows any information about the shootings to contact Det. Alex Jones at (219) 881-7477.
