It’s probably no big surprise why Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi lied about being pregnant when interviewed on “Good Morning America” four weeks ago.

It was all about money.

The “Jersey Shore” star hadn’t yet locked in a bunch of business deals, including an exclusive arrangement with one of the celebrity magazines for the baby scoop – somewhat diluted when the Star spilled the beans a few weeks ago.

That news flash, which we now know was correct, infuriated Polizzi and also complicated matters for her MTV reality show producers – who still are trying to figure out how to merge a pregnant Snooki into the concept they have for the spinoff of “Jersey Shore” starring her and J-Woww.

The father, by the way, is Polizzi’s longtime boyfriend, Jionni LaValle.

†Polizzi has big plans for her pending mama-hood. A source close to her revealed there are proposals drafted for Polizzi to put her name on baby clothing, accessories (bibs, rattles, mobiles) and equipment (strollers, cribs).

†For MTV the challenge will be to blend the concept of proper mothering with Snooki’s reputation for hard partying.

“This is Snooki we’re talking about,” a good MTV source said with a laugh. “Good parenting isn’t exactly something the public will expect from her!”

STILL STRUGGLING: Tatum O’Neal, who long has waged a public battle with her addictions, is back in treatment. A source told RadarOnline, “Tatum made the decision to voluntarily check into rehab after having a relapse about a month ago, when she began using cocaine again.”

The Oscar-winning actress’ younger brother, Redmond O’Neal, also currently is in a rehab facility in Southern California for his addiction to heroin. The siblings are not being treated at the same clinics.

ROSIE FUTURE? While Rosie O’Donnell has not officially listed her multi-million-dollar Lake View home, there’s word the talk show host is very quietly telling a handful of people that the house is for sale – and she’s planning on moving back to New York full time.

If that’s true, what does that mean for her ratings-challenged daily talk show on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network?

STAR TRACKING: Russell Brand’s new romance with artist and fellow yoga enthusiast Oriela Medellin Amieiro is quickly helping him forget his marriage to Katy Perry. … Sony is working 24/7 to finish “Sparkle,” Whitney Houston’s final film performance – hoping to release it as soon as possible, before Whitney’s scenes are leaked online. … Gerard Butler is laughing off criticism of him attending Oscar parties right after his release from the Betty Ford Clinic. The actor points out his problem was prescription drugs and not the alcohol that flows so freely at those Oscar bashes.

GREAT TIMING: Chicagoan Jude Blackburn of the Beverly Arts Center was among those cheering loudest Sunday when Terry George won the Oscar for best live-action short film for “The Shore.” She had a good reason, as Blackburn already had tapped the film to be honored Friday at the 13th annual Chicago Irish Film Festival at the Center – the first U.S. festival screening of “The Shore” since it won the Academy Award.

FAIR & BALANCED: If Judge Mary Trew ever faces any rulings involving Chicago baseball, she likely will be very evenhanded. After all, Trew – who is being feted by supporters of her 9th Subcircuit candidacy at a Sunday event at the Tsamis law firm on West Berwyn – is the daughter of the late James Trew, who was a pro ballplayer and manager for both the Cubs and the Sox!

SEEN ON THE SCENE: Katie Couric had heads turning Tuesday night while dining at the Pump Room. … Sunda sightings recently have included the Hawks’ Patrick Kane and Jamal Mayers. … Celeb diners at the new RPM Italian this week have included Olympic gold medal-winning skater Evan Lysacek and actor Joe Pantoliano.
