Tom Ricketts cracks up Chicago business elite

Tom Ricketts in the Cubs locker room

As the Cubs CEO Tom Ricketts introduced Theo Epstein’s address to the Economic Club of Chicago Monday night at the Chicago Hilton, he joked about his application to business school — in which he waxed poetic about his long-ago dream of someday owning a Major League team.

“The whole point of that,” Ricketts quipped, “Was so the admissions people wouldn’t look too closely at my undergraduate transcript [of his grades].”

After the crowd roared, Ricketts added, “You’ll see that everyone in this room laughed at that — except my Dad!” — pointing to his father, Joe Ricketts, sitting front and center in the Hilton ballroom.
