Bears add linebacker Andrew Starks

BOURBONNAIS — With veteran D.J. Williams sidelined with a right calf injury, the Bears made a move to bring in another linebacker to training camp.

The Bears signed linebacker Andrew Starks to a three-year deal (standard for undrafted free agents) and waived kicker Austin Signor to make room for him.

Starks (6-2, 240 pounds) is a Plainfield native. He had 298 tackles, three interceptions and three fumble recoveries in 39 games played over four seasons at Princeton (2009-12) . Starks earned All-Ivy Second Team honors in junior and senior seasons.

Williams is considered “week to week” by the Bears. Rookie linebacker Jon Bostic has been working with the first-team defense with him out.

Signor was signed in April to give Robbie Gould, who was coming off surgery for a ruptured tendon, some competition. Gould has participated in every practice at training camp.
