UPDATE: Board of Education approves seven new Chicago charter schools.

Our Becky Schlikerman is covering the Chicago Board of Education meeting at 10:30 a.m. today.

Here’s the agenda for the meeting, which includes consideration for 17 new charter school proposals.

Supporters and detractors of charter schools gathered for a press conference this morning ahead of the Chicago Board of Education’s vote.

Protestors also had slept on the Loop sidewalk outside Chicago Public Schools headquarters last night to oppose the expansion of charter schools.
