Comcast launches new DVR, cloud TV service

Comcast Corp. has launched a new DVR service that lets customers live stream TV over their home networks and download recorded shows to watch on a mobile device while they are away from home. A new app for iOS and Android devices also provides access to the channel lineup.

Comcast’s X1 DVR with cloud technology and live in-home streaming is available to new Xfinity TV customers in the company’s Chicago region, which includes Northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan. Chicago is the first Midwest market to get the X1 DVR service. It was previously launched in Boston and Philadelphia.

“We want to provide customers with the best television experience on every device, when they want it and where they want it,” said John Crowley, Comcast’s regional senior vice president. “The cloud-based infrastructure of the X1 platform allows us to deliver on that promise and give customers a more personalized viewing experience.”
