A missing Southwest Side man was last seen on New Year’s Eve near a hospital in north suburban Evanston, police said.

Walter Smith, 49, has been missing from his home in the 6400 block of South Claremont since Dec. 31, according to a missing person alert from Chicago Police. He was last seen near Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Smith is described as a 6-foot, 230-pound black man with black hair, brown eyes and medium complexion. He normally does not have facial hair, but sometimes lets it grow out for a few weeks, police said.

Smith frequents the area near his home, including 51st Street; and also travels on the L to visit Evanston and surrounding suburbs.
