No one was injured when a man barricaded himself inside his west suburban home for eight hours Thursday, prompting a lockdown at a nearby elementary school.

About 11:10 a.m., a family member called police for a well-being check at the home in the 1900 block of Phaeton Court, according to Naperville Police Cmdr. Jason Arres.

But when officers attempted to have the man exit the home to speak with investigators, he wouldn’t leave, police said. Negotiations then went on for several hours.

Scott Elementary School at 500 Warwick Dr. was placed on soft lockdown because of the barricade situation, and a shelter-in-place was issued for residents in the area, Arres said.

“At no time were students at Scott Elementary School in danger,” Naperville Community Unit School District 203 spokeswoman Michelle Fregoso said in a statement. “This was precautionary for student safety in consultation with the Naperville Police Department.”

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., the man, thought to be in his 20s, exited the home and the situation was “peacefully resolved,” police said. Neither the man, nor any officers, was injured, but he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.

It was not immediately known whether the man will be charged in connection with the incident.
