A North Side man’s body was found in a retention pond Wednesday morning in southwest suburban Willow Springs.

Cook County Forest Preserve District Police officers called sheriff’s police at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday when they found an unoccupied Toyota in the 9900 block of Willow Springs Road, Cook County sheriff’s office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said.

The gate that leads to a nearby retention pond was also found open, Ansari said. Police searched the area and a helicopter conducted an aerial search, but nothing was found Tuesday night.

At 8:49 a.m. Wednesday, the body of 66-year-old Subbarao Vadrevu was found in the retention pond, authorities said. It was later determined that he was the owner of the Toyota.

Vadrevu, of the 1600 block of West Lunt Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy Thursday determined he drowned, and his death was ruled an accident.
