A woman died and two others, including a 2-year-old child, were injured in a single-vehicle crash on the Dan Ryan early Friday morning.

At 12:29 a.m., the car crashed into a wall in the northbound express lanes of I-94 at 31st Street, according to Illinois State Police.

There were three people in the car, and the woman was sitting in the front passenger seat. A man was driving and there was a 2-year-old child in the car, police said.

Chalan V. Peterson, 29, of the 300 block of 23rd Avenue in Bellwood, was pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital at 5:55 a.m. Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and police.

An autopsy Saturday found she died of blunt force trauma to the abdomen as a result of the crash, and ruled her death an accident.

The man and the child were also taken to Stroger Hospital with minor, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said alcohol was involved in the crash, and the driver was charged with DUI.
