Man fleeing car fire struck by vehicle on I-55

A man trying to run away from a car fire on the Stevenson Expressway was stuck by another vehicle Thursday afternoon.

A vehicle was heading northbound on I-55 when it became fully engulfed in flames at King Drive at 1 p.m., according to Illinois State Police.

The driver fled from the vehicle on fire and was struck by another vehicle in traffic, according to state police. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver who hit the man did not stay at the scene, according to state police. No description of the vehicle is available.

All northbound lanes of the expressway are closed in the area, state police said.
