Man found dead of suspected suicide in Kenilworth park

A man was found dead of a suspected suicide Monday afternoon in a park in north suburban Kenilworth.

The body of a 58-year-old man was discovered by a park district employee in Townley Field at Cumnor Road and Melrose Avenue in Kenilworth about 3 p.m., according to Kenilworth police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

He had suffered a gunshot wound that is believed to be self-inflicted, police said.

The nearby Joseph Sears School was notified and initiated precautionary security procedures during the investigation, but the exact time of the man’s death is not known. No one reported hearing gunshots or fireworks in the area, police said.

Police said there is no danger to the community.
