A southwest suburban man was killed when his car drove under a semi Wednesday night in Will County.

Robert J. Corcoran, 45, was driving southbound on Route 53 near Elwood when he struck a semi that was heading eastbound on Manhattan Road about 10:45 p.m., according to Illinois State Police and the Will County coroner’s office.

The car ended up underneath the semi trailer, police said.

Corcoran, of Elwood, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office.

The semi driver was not hurt, police said.

Illinois State Police are investigating the crash.

Elwood is located about 10 miles south of Joliet.
