Some flights at O’Hare and Midway have been canceled and delayed Thursday afternoon because of inclement weather in Chicago and on the East Coast.

More than 50 flights to the East Coast have been canceled at O’Hare, and airlines are reporting delays up to 30 minutes for eastbound flights, according to the city’s Department of Aviation.

Due to local weather, some other flights are beginning to experience delays at O’Hare. Travelers are advised to check flight status with their airline.

Airlines at Midway are reporting “lengthy delays” for flights to the East Coast because of weather there.

Some showers and thunderstorms are moving into the Chicago area as of 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Downpours, gusty winds, and pea size hail are all possible.
