Inbound Milwaukee District-North Line Train 2600 hit the male about 7 a.m. at a marked crossing at Carpenter and Kinzie, according to Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, fire officials said.

The train was stopped for about an hour before arriving at Union Station as crews cleared the scene.
