A 62-year-old man was killed in a crash early Wednesday in Hebron, Ind. | Indiana State Police

A 62-year-old man died after his pickup crashed into the back of a semi truck early Wednesday in northwest Indiana.

Richard D. Bennett was driving his 2001 Chevrolet pickup eastbound on State Route 2 at I-65 in Hebron when he went through the intersection and hit the back of the semi about 5:30 a.m., according to Indiana State Police.

A witness told police the light turned green when Bennett went through the intersection and his truck hit the semi without braking.

Bennett, of Lowell, was not wearing his seatbelt and was discovered unresponsive by two state troopers who responded. They removed him from his pickup and performed CPR.

He was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point where he was pronounced dead, police said.

All eastbound lanes of State Route 2 were closed immediately after the crash, but have since reopened.
